The
Braves took on the Barons on the afternoon of Sunday, April
5th in their final pre-season tournament game, the
first round of the playoff bracket, eventually falling to the
Barons by a score of 15-4 in four innings. The first two
pool play games were for "seeding" purposes, to set
the final playoff brackets for the tournament. After the
convoluted seeding process was completed, the Braves were
seeded #5, with the Barons seeded at #4.
1ST
INNING
The Braves started well with Kalyb and Paul each scoring runs
to take an early 2-0 lead. Paul's hit was the Braves'
second home run of the season. After a strikeout, Hayden
followed with a hit but was caught stealing second base for
the second out (2-4 Caught Stealing). A final strikeout
ended the Braves half of the first inning, leaving the bases
empty.
The
Barons leadoff batter struck out, but they brought four runs
home on five hits, including a home run by their #2
hitter. A strikeout by the #7 batter ended the Barons'
share of the inning with a runner at first base, but the
Barons took the lead 4-2.
2ND
INNING
The Braves did not score in the second inning, with a pair of
groundouts to the shortstop and a strikeout making for an easy
inning for the Barons, 1-2-3.
The
Barons increased their lead to 5-1, scoring another run in the
bottom of the second inning with five batters going to the
plate and three reaching base. The leadoff batter was
out at third, however as Hayden and Kalyb combined for the out
(2-5 Caught Stealing). The second batter of the inning
singled and stole his way to third. A strikeout, a base
hit to drive in the run, and a strikeout ended the Barons
second inning threat, leaving a runner stranded at third
base.
3RD
INNING
The Braves failed to score again in the third
inning, sending four to the plate with Easton reaching with a
base hit and advancing to second on Joshua's groundout to the
pitcher, but could go no further as a strikeout and a
groundout to the second baseman ended the inning.
The
Barons broke the game open in the bottom of the third inning,
scoring six runs to increase their lead to 11-2 as eight
consecutive Barons batters reached base. The Barons'
first out of the inning was recorded as their third batter
tried to stretch a single to right field and Caleb, Trey, and
Kalyb combined to relay the ball to third for the out.
The next five Barons reached base with four of them scoring
runs before the Braves pitcher fielded a ground ball and
tossed to Paul for the second out. Paul and Hayden
then connected on a play at the plate (2-3) for the third out
as another Baron attempted to advance on the groundout.
4TH
INNING
The Braves came back in
the fourth inning with two more runs to cut the score to 11-4,
as the team sent seven batters of their own to the
plate. Paul lead off with a single but was out
attempting to steal third base (3-5 CS). After a
groundout to the pitcher, Hayden doubled and scored on Trey's
single. Jacob singled and Ryley then brought Trey home
with a single. A groundout to first ended the Braves'
fourth with runners at first and second.
The
Barons were still at bat with one out in the bottom of the
fourth inning as the game time limit was reached, but not
before scoring four more runs to set the final score of 15-4.
